In the present study, a laboratory scale anoxic/oxic (A/O) reactor is used for the removal of nutrient and sludge reduction. Phosphorus removal was achieved through simultaneous precipitation, and sludge production was reduced through thermochemical pretreatment. The main objective of the study was to investigate the influence of sludge pretreatment on the nitrification rate. Total phosphorus in the effluent was maintained around 0.5 ~ 1.0 mg/L by simultaneous precipitation, using coagulant alum at 2.2 mole ratio. Before simultaneous precipitation, the nitrification rate of the A/O reactor was found to be 0.050 g N-NH4 +/g MLVSS.d. The thermochemical sludge pretreatment began on the 120th day at pH 11 and 80°C. The initiation of sludge pretreatment brought about a significant reduction of the A/O reactor nitrification rate, which fell to 0.038 g N-NH4 +/g MLVSS/day. The effect of sludge pretreatment was reflected in the reduction of the nitrogen removal efficiency from 85 to 74%. Recycling of the thermochemically pretreated sludge accounted for 57% sludge reduction, which had an adverse influence on the nitrification rate of the system. 相似文献

A strain isolated from waste of a milk products plant and exhibited extracellular lipolytic activity was identified as Debaryomyces hansenii by 5.8S rRNA and 28S rRNA gene sequence analyses. Lipolytic activity was assayed spectrophotometrically by using p-nitrophenylpalmitate. Higher specific lipolytic activities were obtained in the presence of tristearin (0.68 U/mg prot), oleic acid (0.56 U/mg prot), and soybean oil (0.36 U/mg prot) than other triglycerides, fatty acids, and vegetable oils considered as carbon sources. Cheese whey appeared to be a good alternative to lipidic substances for lipolytic activity. Among various organic and inorganic nitrogen sources, soy flour was found to attain the lipolytic activity similar to that provided by universal yeast medium components. This work is the first report on the discussion of lipolytic activity enhancement by D. hansenii through modulating the cultivation medium. It also proposes low cost medium nutrients that could be of industrial value and could serve as basal nutrients for further optimization studies on the lipase production by D. hansenii. 相似文献

Strains isolation and identification, comparative study of antibiotic resistance of planktonic (disk diffusion, E-test, automatic systems) and sessile (using original experimental models for in vitro development of monospecific biofilms) bacterial cells, virulence assays (adherence and invasion of HeLa cells, slime test, soluble virulence factors expression), dynamic study of biofilm development on inert substrata, under the influence of antibiotics, the influence of cellular and soluble bacterial fractions on HeLa cells (by flow cytometry and real-time PCR).Results
The identified strains were isolated from different sources, the etiology being dominated by Gram-negative non-fermentative bacilli, Gram-positive cocci and yeasts, harboring invasion enzymes responsible for development of systemic infections. The isolated strains exhibited a high level of antibiotic resistance to beta-lactams, aminoglycosides and quinolones, and an evident tendency of colonizing the cellular and inert substrate, the degree of colonization depending on the physico-chemical nature of the substrate. By comparison with planktonic ones, the sessile bacterial strains expressed a changed profile of antibiotic resistance, this aspect being very important for the readjustment of the treatment and prevention of infections associated with prosthetic devices. In vitro experiments suggested that different fractions of S. aureus cultures could trigger the release of proinflammatory (TNF-α, IL-1b, IL-6) and anti-inflammatory (IL-8) cytokines and induced apoptosis in HeLa cells. 相似文献105.

Abstract In contrast to the huge amount of research on Turkish migration and migrants, the diasporic politics of the Turkish Kemalist state constitutes a neglected research subject in the scholarship on Turkish diaspora. How does the Turkish state reach out to its nationals and expatriates abroad? In what ways does the Turkish Republic seek to make Islam (as it does in Turkey) into an instrument legitimizing its politicizing and mobilizing enterprises? To explore these questions, this article investigates the long-distance Kemalism engaged in by the Turkish state to Turkify and secularize its nationals in the diaspora, using its activities in Australia as its case study. In sketching out trans-Kemalism's dimensions, the analysis directs attention to the intimate relationship between the political and religious fields of transnationalism manufactured by the state. The paper concludes that the intense political polarization in Turkey in the present makes the future of trans-Kemalism abroad somewhat uncertain. 相似文献

Biofilms of selected bacteria strains were previously used on metal coupons as a protective layer against microbiologically influenced corrosion of metals. Unlike metal surfaces, concrete surfaces present a hostile environment for growing a protective biofilm. The main objective of this research was to investigate whether a beneficial biofilm can be successfully grown on mortar surfaces. Escherichia coli DH5α biofilm was grown on mortar surfaces for 8 days, and the structure and characteristics of the biofilm were studied using advanced microscopy techniques such as scanning electron microscopy and confocal laser scanning microscopy in combination with fluorescence in situ hybridization, live/dead, extracellular polymer staining, ATP analysis, and membrane filtration. A biofilm layer with a varying thickness of 20–40 μm was observed on the mortar surface. The distribution of live and dead bacteria and extracellular polymers varied with depth. The density of the live population near the mortar surface was the lowest. The bacteria reached their highest density at three fourths of the biofilm depth and then decreased again near the biofilm–liquid interface. Overall, the results indicated a healthy biofilm growth in the chosen growth period of 8 days, and it is expected that longer growth periods would lead to formation of a more resistant biofilm with more coverage of mortar surfaces. 相似文献

females, 13 males, mean age 33.53 ± 9.85 years). An age, gender, and body mass index matched 30 healthy volunteers comprised
control group (21 females, ten males with a mean age 33.93 ± 7.39 years). Urine fluoride levels of chronic fluorosis patients
were significantly higher than that of control subjects as expected (1.92 ± 0.10 mg/l vs. 0.41 ± 0.09 mg/l, respectively;
P < 0.001). Serum Cu levels (89.14 ± 16.77 μg/dL vs. 102.69 ± 25.04 μg/dL, respectively, P = 0.017), serum Zn levels (77.98 ± 20.58 μg/dL vs. 94.57 ± 35.87μg/dL, respectively, P = 0.032), and serum Mg levels (1.92 ± 0.18 mg/dL vs. 2.07 ± 0.31 mg/dL, respectively, p = 0.022) was significantly lower in chronic fluorosis patients than in controls. There were no statistically significant
differences between the fluorosis group and control group with respect to serum levels of Na, K, Ca, and P. We concluded that

Oxidative stress, a pervasive condition induced by stress has been implicated and recognized to be a prominent feature of various pathological states including cancer and their progression. The present study sought to validate the effectiveness of chronic unpredictable stress (CUS) on hepatic and renal toxicity in terms of alterations of various in vivo biochemical parameters, oxidative stress markers and the extent of DNA damage in Swiss albino mice. Animals were randomized into different groups based on their exposure to CUS alone, 7,12-dimethylbenz (a) anthracene (DMBA) alone (topical), DMBA-12-O-tetradecanoylphorbol-13-acetate (TPA) (topical), and exposure to CUS prior to DMBA or DMBA-TPA treatment, and sacrificed after 16 weeks of treatment. Prior exposure to CUS increased the pro-oxidant effect of carcinogen as depicted by significantly compromised levels of antioxidants; superoxide dismutase, catalase, glutathione-S-transferase, glutathione reductase, reduced glutathione in hepatic and renal tissues accompanied by a significant elevation of thiobarbituric acid reactive species (TBARS) as compared to DMBA alone or DMBA-TPA treatments. Loss of structural integrity at the cellular level due to stress-induced oxidative damage was demonstrated by significant increases in the hepatic levels of intracellular marker enzymes such as glutamate oxaloacetate transaminase, glutamate pyruvate transaminase and alkaline phosphatase, and significantly reduced levels of uric acid in kidney tissues. The results of DNA damage studies further positively correlated with all the above biochemical measurements. Thus, exposure to physical or psychological stress may significantly enhance the hepatotoxic and nephrotoxic potential of carcinogens through enhanced oxidative stress even if the treatment is topical. 相似文献

MUC1 over-expression in renal clear-cell carcinoma (RCC) is associated with poor prognosis. This phase II study determined the efficacy and tolerability of TG4010, a cancer vaccine based on a modified vaccinia virus expressing MUC1 and interleukin-2, in combination with cytokines, as first-line therapy in metastatic RCC. Thirty-seven patients with progressive, MUC1-positive RCC received TG4010 10(8) pfu/inj weekly for 6 weeks, then every 3 weeks until progression, when TG4010 was continued in combination with interferon-α2a and interleukin-2. Assessments included clinical response (primary endpoint), safety, time to treatment failure (TTF), overall survival (OS), and immune response. No objective clinical responses occurred. Five of the 27 evaluable patients (18%) had stable disease for >6 months with TG4010 alone and six of 20 patients (30%) had stable disease for >6 months with TG4010 plus cytokines. Median TTF was 4.1, 3.6, and 9.3 months for monotherapy, combination therapy, and overall, respectively. Median OS was 19.3 months for all patients and 22.4 months combination therapy recipients. The most frequent TG4010-related adverse events were minor-to-moderate injection-site reactions, fatigue, and flu-like symptoms. Six of 28 patients showed a MUC1 CD4+ T cell proliferative response during therapy. Anti-MUC1 CD8+ T cells were detected before and after therapy in 3 and 4 patients, respectively. MUC1-specific CD8+ T cell responses were associated with longer survival. Therapy with TG4010 plus cytokines appears to be feasible and well tolerated in patients with metastatic RCC. However, these data should be interpreted with caution, as additional prospective studies are necessary to clarify the clinical efficacy of this therapy. 相似文献

Dance and movement therapy are consisted of music, easy exercises and sensorial stimulus and provide drugless treatment for the depression on low rates. In this study, it has been aimed to examine the effect of dance over the depression. A total of 120 healthy male and female conservatory students ranged from 20 and 24 ages volunteered to participate in this study. They were divided randomly into 1 of 2 groups: dance training group (DTG; N = 60) and control group (CG; N = 60). A dance training program was applied to the subjects three days a week (Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday) during 12 weeks. The subjects in the control group did not participate in the training and participated only in the pre and post test measurements. Beck Depression Scale was used for the pre and post test measurements of subjects. 12 weeks of dance training has been found to be effective on the depression levels of the subjects participating in the research as the training group (p < 0.05). The depression level of males and females before training has meaningfully decreased after 12 weeks of dance training (p < 0.05). When the depression levels of the subjects participated in research as the control group were separately evaluated for males and females, no meaningful change has been found in the depression levels during 12 weeks (p > 0.05). In conclusion, it has been seen that dance affects the depression levels of university students positively and decreases their depression levels. 相似文献
